The Word Wagon exists to...

1

Promote Childhood Literacy

2

Provide Reading Opportunities

3

Place Books in Children's Hands

The Word Wagon is a literacy program created in 2015 by Casey Enright, a graduate of Belmont University. She was moved by the statistic that “in a low-income neighborhood, 1 in 300 children have an age appropriate book,” and realized a great need for a literacy program in Middle Tennessee. The Word Wagon is dedicated to providing reading opportunities and materials for children in the Middle Tennessee communities we serve. Through partnerships with community groups, such as One Generation Away, The Word Wagon is able to attend food distribution events and other community programs to reach their key publics: children and families in low-income areas of Middle Tennessee. Since 2015, The Word Wagon has traveled over 4,000 miles, hosted 50 READing Days, served over 500 children, distributed over 5,000 books. The Word Wagon exists to change children's lives one book at a time.
